1942 during World War Two and with no petrol available for private use, public transport was at its lowest ebb. A common sight in Patrickswell was The Lord Adare Coach on its way to Limerick City in the morning and its return journey in the evening. This service was provided by Lord Adare. The coach was purchased in England was drawn by four horses and had accommodation for twenty passengers. It ran from Rathkeale to Limerick City, (Approx 20 miles) with a change of horses at Adare. To the best of my knowledge the fare from Patrickswell to the city was 1 shilling and 6 pence return.
